Under the annual theme ‘Tricksters, Unite!’, artists are currently guests at Castle Balmoral/Bad Ems as part of the international scholarship programme of the state of Rhineland- Pfalz. In an increasingly radicalised world of ambiguity, the figure of the trickster and his strategies of ambiguity offer a counterweight. The figure of thought challenges us to play with perceptions, to circumvent the rules and to collide certainties in a well-dosed manner. In a joint tour through the exhibition rooms of the Arp Museum, the head of the Artist Residency, Katharina Fink, and the director of the Arp Museum, Dr Julia Wallner, will talk about the idea of the Trickster. In a historical dimension, the theme can be traced back to Dada and Romanticism. Working in community, the humorous or playful overcoming of orders and an experimental search for new possibilities and freedom of thought become themes of art that are still relevant today.
Following the tour, two of the scholarship holders will present their work and the discussion will continue over a glass of wine on the terrace of the Arp Lab.
The discussion will be held in English.
