Since the Middle Ages, a particle of the Holy Cross has been displayed for veneration in the parish on the Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross.
The market traders followed the pilgrims - this is how the traditional Breisiger "Zwibbelsmaat" came into being. At numerous stalls you can buy everything you need for everyday life.
The Zwiebelsmarkt (onion market) in Bad Breisig has a long tradition dating back to the early Middle Ages, when the people of Breisig were granted market rights by Emperor Charles IV. It is not known how long the Breisig market existed in this form. It certainly lost its importance when the many customs barriers were removed and trade became more liberalised. What remained were individual market days, mostly in connection with church festivals.
For example, the market around the Feast of the Elevation of the Cross on 14 September is still celebrated today in the spring town in accordance with old tradition.
