The town of Brühl offers a variety of cultural and historical attractions, nestled in a scenic setting. Elector Clemens August had two palaces built. Augustusburg Palace (1725), with its imposing staircase by Balthasar Neumann, as well as the palace park and Falkenlust Palace (1729) were added to the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List in 1984.
The Phantasialand amusement park, beautiful lake landscapes, a historic city center with a wide variety of restaurants, the Museum of Everyday History, and much more make a visit to this 700-year-old city in the Rhineland truly worthwhile. Its proximity to Cologne, Bonn, and Aachen, the adjacent Kottenforst-Ville Nature Park, and the Rhine Valley round out the diverse range of leisure activities on offer.
Since September 2005, Brühl has offered another cultural highlight. The Max Ernst Museum was opened in honor of the surrealist and Dadaist artist who was born in Brühl. The museum's collection comprises over 90 percent of all the artist's sculptures and graphic works, as well as an extensive photographic collection.
