The TV Eiche Bad Honnef 02 (tve) - athletics/outdoor department - has been organising the Löwenburglauf since 2000: in 2014, after a break in 2008, for the first time with start and finish in Bad Honnef itself. The 13.98 km course with a total of 340 metres of elevation gain leads through the romantic Siebengebirge mountains, around the ruins of Löwenburg Castle, and is a highly challenging course despite the beautiful landscape. For less experienced runners, there is also the Löwenburglauf light over 6 km, and Nordic walking fans are also catered for with a course that is also around 14 km long.
For the youngest runners (3 to 7 years), the tve is organising a 500 m circuit in Reitersdorf Park (city centre).
The Löwenburglauf is part of the annual Siebengebirgscup (www.7G-cup.de), which consists of four races.
For the first time, the tve is awarding the Rheintaler as a prize for the best women, men and age group winners.
The Rheintaler fulfils a dual purpose: it is a decorative reminder of the Löwenburglauf and the Siebengebirge, and it offers holders good discount opportunities at around 200 shops along the course of the Rhine from south to north.
