LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN

LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN

One of the most famous Rhinelanders is Ludwig van Beethoven, even though many people believe that Beethoven was Viennese.

Beethoven was born in Bonn in 1770. His birthplace can still be visited today. Beethoven's father was very impressed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who performed as a boy wonder at the age of six. In order to turn the young Beethoven into a child prodigy, his father taught him to play the piano and encouraged his talent as much as possible.
A middle ear infection, which he suffered from at the age of 5, was not diagnosed and was probably the cause of his later deafness.
At the age of 22, Beethoven went to Vienna, the musical center of Europe at the time. Beethoven died there in 1823.
