The Rheingold is a luxury train that travelled between Hoek in Holland and Amsterdam to various destinations in Switzerland from 1928.
This connection was advertised on posters as the fastest connection between the North Sea and the Alps. ‘THE FASTEST TRAIN FROM THE NORTH SEA TO THE ALPS’ was the slogan.
Special Pullman carriages were designed especially for the Rheingold train and you could even enjoy the journey along the Rhine in a viewing carriage, the Buckelwagen. Some of these carriages have been preserved and are lovingly maintained by the Friends of the Cologne Railway and used for special trips.
The Mitropa dining car from 1928 is pictured on the Rheintaler.
